Hristina Obradović, PhD
Research associate
Institute for Medical Research,
University of Belgrade
Doctor of biological sciences and research associate in the Group for Hematology and Stem Cells of the Institute for Medical Research of the University of Belgrade. She defended her doctoral dissertation in molecular biology at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade.
During her scientific work, she focused on investigating the influence of the microenvironment on mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MSC) from the human umbilical cord and further expanded her interests to other perinatal tissues. Therefore, she initiated cooperation with the Institute of Cell Biology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ljubljana, where she gained experience in a project investigating the anti-tumor, antimicrobial and immunomodulatory effects of placenta tissue derivatives, first as a visiting and then as a postdoctoral researcher.
She actively participated in all activities within COST actions aimed at creating reliable 3D in vitro models in the laboratory (CA16119, CellFit) and translating research on perinatal tissue derivatives into therapeutic approaches (CA17116, SPRINT). She is also a member of the International Society for Placenta Stem cell research (IPLASS) and participates in bilateral scientific cooperation with the Republic of Slovenia on the development of mucoadhesive films with placenta tissue homogenate for potential application in oral tissue regeneration. She is part of the team within the international RIABONE project with the University Hospital Würzburg, Germany, which deals with the development of a new therapeutic strategy for the reconstruction of bone damage using biomaterials to replace bone tissue.
In addition, she attended courses for innovative entrepreneurship and scientific communication, and is active in the popularization of science through engagement at the Science Festival, the Technical Fair and other forms of promotion of scientific research, such as the preparation of promotional scientific printed and video material, guest appearances in the media and management of social networks. She actively participates in the education of new staff through the supervision of master students, internship students and high school pupils.
